Sven van Mourik is a historian of modern Europe specializing in the global history of sovereign debt, austerity, and postcolonial development. His research investigates how institutions like the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the European Commission reshaped economic governance in the Global South from the 1970s onward. With professional experience at the University of Amsterdam and New York University, as well as the international policy sector (OECD, UNICEF), he brings a policy-engaged approach to contemporary history. His current work involves a monograph on the history of structural adjustment programs, and an open access dataset of sovereign debt reschedulings by the Paris Club of creditors.
