Selbi Jumayeva

Civil Society Leader, Environmental Expert. Curator

Selbi Jumayeva is a Central Asian expert with 25 years of experience in strengthening civil society, resourcing grassroots initiatives, and leading cross-sectoral projects. Her work focuses on desert futures, socio-ecological systems, and planetary boundaries, with current projects in community-led citizen science for biodiversity conservation and climate adaptation in Turkmenistan. She previously directed environment and society strategy at Kazakhstan’s Artcom Platform and co-founded FemAgora, a Central Asian feminist organization. As a curator and artist, she explores multispecies relations, traditional ecological knowledge, and Turkmen intellectual history through collaborative projects such as Steppe Synanthropies: Extant Across Continents. With degrees in Sociology and Human Rights, and ongoing studies in Environmental Science, Selbi combines research, activism, and art to reimagine ecological and social futures in Central Asia.
