Waleed Ziad is Associate Professor of History at Georgetown University in Qatar and a scholar of the Persianate world, Central Asia, and Afghanistan. He previously served as Associate Professor and Dr. Ali Jarrahi Fellow in Persian Studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and Islamic Law and Civilization Research Fellow at Yale Law School. Dr. Ziad’s research explores the historical and philosophical foundations of Muslim revivalism, Sufi networks, and the roles of female Sufi masters. He has authored several books, including Hidden Caliphate: Sufi Saints Beyond the Oxus and Indus (Harvard, 2021), winner of the Albert Hourani Prize and the American Institute of Pakistan Studies annual book award.
